Elon Musk’s tunneling startup, The Boring Company, is in discussions to raise $4 billion in new funding, which would push its valuation to around $20 billion. This valuation would mark a substantial increase from its $5.7 billion valuation in 2022 after a $675 million fundraising effort. The terms of this potential funding round have not yet closed and could still change.

The company operates the Vegas Loop in Las Vegas, Nevada, which began transporting passengers in 2021 and has since carried over 3 million people. The Boring Company has also announced plans for tunnel networks, including the Music City Loop in Nashville, designed to connect downtown with Nashville International Airport, and the Dubai Loop in collaboration with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, a pilot system with 6.4 kilometers of tunnel and four stations.

Despite these expansion plans, The Boring Company has faced challenges, including accusations of nearly 800 environmental violations in Nevada in 2025 related to its Las Vegas construction activities, which the company disputed. Additionally, several proposed projects in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles have not yet materialized into operational networks. The reported $20 billion valuation suggests investors are betting on the company's ability to scale its tunneling technology and Loop concept into a global infrastructure business, potentially making it nearly four times more valuable than it was just four years ago.
