J.P. Morgan Payments is aggressively expanding its presence in India's real-time payments sector, partnering with Mindgate Solutions to deploy a next-generation UPI infrastructure. This collaboration, announced at Global Fintech Fest 2026, aims to power real-time collections and payouts for J.P. Morgan's corporate and merchant clients, supporting high-volume payment flows through QR, intent flows, and UPI Autopay. The infrastructure runs on Mindgate's cloud-based Unified Digital Payment Hub (UDPH), designed for scalability and resilience to handle India's dynamic digital payment market. This move builds on J.P. Morgan's existing engagement with Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) on Mindgate's platform.

Beyond domestic operations, J.P. Morgan is also working with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on cross-border payments, supporting NPCI in nearly 70 countries where it operates. Christine Tan, Head of Financial Institutions Group Sales, Asia Pacific, Payments, J.P. Morgan, highlighted that UPI serves as a role model for accessible payment infrastructure. The next strategic focus is to connect these real-time payment systems across borders to remove friction in international transactions, with Asia being a key region for such developments in countries like Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.

A significant aspect of this cross-border strategy is the partnership between J.P. Morgan Payments and NPCI to launch real-time FX for cross-border UPI transactions. This integration provides instant currency conversion and settlement, enabling Indian travelers and international businesses to use UPI apps for global payments with transparent, immediate cost visibility. This solution supports UPI's expansion into international markets like Singapore, the UAE, and France, ensuring that the financial infrastructure can manage high-volume, instant FX requirements securely. Guhaprasath Rajagopal, Head of India Payments at J.P. Morgan Payments, emphasized that this collaboration reduces friction, connects clients to UPI's reach, and leverages J.P. Morgan's real-time FX capabilities to offer better customer experiences and control across currencies.

The expansion reflects J.P. Morgan's deep commitment to India's payments landscape, integrating local rails like UPI and IMPS with its global network. The firm processes nearly $12 trillion in payments daily across over 160 countries and 120 currencies. This strategic investment in India's digital payment ecosystem is expected to enhance services for clients, facilitate inward remittances through Rupee Drawing Arrangement (RDA) corridors, and solidify J.P. Morgan's role in the world's fastest-growing payment corridor. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon is also visiting India, signaling the firm's broader push into the country, where it anticipates a boom in deals.
