HSBC Holdings Plc is actively seeking a new Chief Financial Officer as Pam Kaur, the current CFO, has announced her intention to step down from the role in 2027. Kaur will not stand for re-election as a director at the 2027 Annual General Meeting (AGM), with her official retirement date to be confirmed but no later than the AGM. This marks an unexpected departure for Kaur, who was appointed to the CFO position only two years prior and was the bank's first female finance chief in its over 160-year history.
Following her departure from the full-time CFO role, Kaur will transition to an advisory position, supporting Group CEO Georges Elhedery with ongoing strategic projects and ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities. HSBC's board has initiated a search process for her successor, considering both internal and external candidates. CEO Georges Elhedery praised Kaur's "deep experience, strong judgement and firm commitment to financial discipline" during her tenure, particularly over the last two years as Group CFO.
Kaur's departure comes as HSBC undergoes a significant restructuring, splitting its operations into East and West regional divisions, driven by market exits and efforts to streamline operations and achieve cost reductions. The terms of her departure are aligned with the Directors' Remuneration Policy approved by shareholders in 2025. She will retain "Good Leaver" status for deferred awards, conditional on not joining competitor financial services firms before her awards vest. Her notice period ends on September 9, 2027, and she is expected to remain as an advisor until the end of 2028.
