Maria Bartiromo, a prominent financial journalist and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, has parted ways with Fox News Media after more than a decade. The announcement was made on Thursday, effective immediately, with Fox issuing a statement thanking her for her "work over the last 12 ½ years" and wishing her "all the best on her next chapter." The network did not provide a specific reason for her departure, which follows her absence from the airwaves since August 9.
During her tenure at Fox Business Network, Bartiromo served as the global markets editor and hosted "Mornings with Maria" and "Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street." On Fox News Channel, she anchored "Sunday Morning Futures." Her shows will now be replaced by programs featuring rotating anchors: "Mornings with FOX Business" and "FBN’s Wall Street." Jason Chaffetz will temporarily host "Sunday Morning Futures."
Bartiromo's departure is significant, marking the largest surprise from the network since Tucker Carlson left in April 2023. Her more conservative turn in reporting after joining Fox from CNBC, where she was known for being a trailblazer for women in financial media, drew considerable attention. She was also a central figure in the defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News in 2021, where comments made on her programs were cited as evidence. That lawsuit was settled in 2023 for $787 million.
Although the official reason for her exit remains undisclosed, sources familiar with the matter suggest it was a "business decision" due to legal challenges stemming from statements made on her shows. Despite being a favorite of Fox Corporation Chairman Emeritus Rupert Murdoch and frequently receiving praise from former President Trump, Bartiromo's recent history with the network had become problematic.
