Tempsens Instruments (India) Ltd. saw its shares jump 110% on its debut on Friday, August 28, 2026, trading at 630 rupees ($7.55) against an IPO price of 300 rupees. The successful listing followed a $68 million initial public offering that closed on August 24, 2026, and was oversubscribed 184 times, receiving bids worth $83.9 billion for shares valued at $650 million.
Analysts had predicted a strong listing, with the grey market premium (GMP) indicating a potential 100% to 110% gain over the issue price. Mahesh M. Ojha, Vice President – Research & Business Development at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, noted Tempsens' strong position in India's temperature-sensing and specialized cable industry, highlighting its 10.5% market share in the overall temperature sensor segment and 21.3% in non-contact temperature sensors. The company's financials showed consistent growth, with revenue, EBITDA, and PAT recording CAGRs of 27.2%, 35.2%, and 28.2% respectively, between FY24 and FY26. Its low debt-to-equity ratio of 0.2 times further bolstered investor confidence.
Despite a valuation at 37.3 times FY26 earnings, which some analysts, like Tushar Badjate of Badjate Stock & Shares, considered premium, experts like Ojha believed it was justified by the company's growth profile, niche market leadership, and strong business model. Tempsens, established in 1990, manufactures temperature sensors, electrical heating solutions, and specialized cables, serving over 1,000 unique customers and exporting to more than 80 countries. The IPO comprised a fresh issue of shares worth $95 million and an offer for sale worth $555 million.
The company's robust performance is attributed to its critical industrial applications across sectors like steel, power, aerospace, electric vehicles, and semiconductors, coupled with customized solutions and certifications that create high barriers to entry. Tempsens reported FY26 revenue of $445 million and a profit of $71 million, maintaining an EBITDA margin of over 25%. While concerns about increasing net working capital days (from 152 to 210 between FY24 and FY26) and contingent liabilities of 15.5% of FY26 profit were noted, the overall market sentiment remained bullish on its long-term growth prospects due to India's expanding industrial automation and manufacturing ecosystem.
