Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, known as the 'man who bought London' and whose son is bidding for Manchester United, is reportedly planning to sell two of his prominent London properties. These include a penthouse at the exclusive One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge, with an asking price of approximately $220 million.
Additionally, the Sheikh is looking to offload a property near Belgrave Square, valued at around $150 million. This brings the potential total value of these sales to $370 million. However, sources suggest the Sheikh, who has an estimated net worth of about $892 million, might not proceed with the sales if the asking prices are not met.
The One Hyde Park development, partly backed by Qatari money and developed by the Candy brothers, has seen various high-value sales. One particular apartment, C.08.1, faced multiple relistings and price adjustments over several years, being put on and taken off the market at prices ranging from $63 million to $75 million without finding a buyer, highlighting the complexities of the super-prime property market.
The property near Belgrave Square, a Grade II listed building, was acquired by Sheikh Hamad in 2016 for an undisclosed sum, with Land Registry records showing a $34 million transaction possibly related to the lease. He has been extensively renovating it and experts suggest its finished value could exceed $300 million. The Sheikh was Qatar's prime minister from 2007 to 2013 and played a key role in Qatar's London investment drive, which included acquisitions like Harrods and stakes in the Shard, Chelsea Barracks, and Canary Wharf.
