This growth is fueled by rising temperatures globally, particularly in Asia, which accounts for the fastest-growing demand. Japan, a significant contributor, represented about 2.8 percent of the global market in 2024. These advanced textiles aim to provide solutions for personal cooling without relying on external power sources, differing from traditional air-conditioned or fan-equipped garments.

Innovations in this sector include Satisfy’s HeatCrush, a performance mesh and micro-jersey designed in Japan that activates with sweat. In controlled testing, HeatCrush reportedly lowered surface temperature by 8 degrees Celsius over 30 minutes, significantly outperforming standard polyester (-3.1 degrees Celsius) and nylon (-5.3 degrees Celsius). The fabric's cooling effect intensify with increased sweat production and airflow, and it can also be activated by water in arid conditions. This technology is incorporated into a range of running apparel, including base layers, T-shirts, and specialized shorts, featuring Acrofuse bonded seam construction and containing between 42 percent and 50 percent recycled content.

Another notable development is the Hyo-Geki line from a Japanese consortium, sold as Ice Blast internationally. This fabric uses Sumitomo Chemical’s Comformer polymer and Utax’s Cool Touch Printing to maintain an internal microclimate around 32 degrees Celsius with 50 percent humidity. While independent peer-reviewed data on its effectiveness for athletes during exercise is not publicly available, Yokohama FC, a professional J2 League team, has adopted Hyo-Geki α for players' heat management during training and matches. Separately, Rick Owens and Adidas have developed inflatable tracksuits that act as a personal air conditioning system, claiming to reduce core temperature by up to 0.5 degrees Celsius and skin temperature by up to 13 degrees Celsius when worn with an ice vest.
