Iraq has instructed operators at several major oil fields in the south to restore production and crude exports to their full available capacity. This directive, signed by Basra Oil Company Operations Director Imad Hassan Lafta, specifically targets the North Rumaila, West Qurna 1, and Artawi oil fields, along with the Tuba field which is managed by the South Basra Integrated Division. Production and pumping operations to storage facilities returned to normal capacity on Friday, July 3rd, at 8:00 p.m., aligning with operational requirements and production plans.
This move by the Basra Oil Company comes amidst growing optimism regarding improved stability in energy supply chains, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Gulf region. Diplomatic efforts aimed at easing regional tensions and safeguarding international shipping routes have contributed to this positive outlook.
Reportedly, output in southern Iraq has already increased to 1.75 million barrels per day and is continuing to rise. The Iraqi government has a longer-term goal to boost total oil production capacity to 7 million barrels per day within the next three years, with potential collaboration from US-based firms. The rapid resumption of Iraqi oil flows, combined with the gradual restoration of regional shipping lanes, is expected to help alleviate global supply limitations and stabilize worldwide energy prices.
