President Trump’s financial disclosures for 2025, revealing over $2 billion in income, including $1.2 billion from cryptocurrency-related ventures, have become a major point of attack for Democrats in the lead-up to the midterm elections. This substantial increase from his $600 million income in 2024 is being contrasted with the economic struggles faced by many Americans, such as a 4.2% year-over-year rise in consumer prices in May—a three-year high—and a weaker-than-expected jobs report for June, showing only 57,000 new jobs.
Democrats, like Senator Adam Schiff, are framing this as evidence of corruption, arguing that Trump is profiting from his presidency while ordinary citizens struggle to make ends meet. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board also criticized Trump and his family for "cashing in" on the presidency in "big and sketchy ways," highlighting that $593 million of his income came from World Liberty Financial, co-founded by him and his sons, and noted that foreign entities might be using these deals to buy influence.
More than half of Trump's 2025 income, specifically $594 million, originated from World Liberty Financial, a company launched with his sons in 2024. Another $635 million is attributed to his meme coin, $TRUMP, released just before his January 2025 inauguration. He also received $86.5 million from legal settlements. Traditional income sources like his Mar-a-Lago resort contributed $77.4 million, and his golf clubs across multiple states and Scotland brought in a combined $252.5 million.
This financial windfall is complicating the Republican party's efforts to focus on affordability and economic issues. Democrats plan aggressive oversight investigations into Trump's business empire and associates if they regain control of the House in November. Senator Elizabeth Warren specifically called for stricter ethics rules regarding cryptocurrency to prevent top federal officials and their families from profiting from the industry. Trump, however, maintains that his investments are managed through a "blind account" and denies any wrongdoing.
