Hotel rates for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are seeing astronomical increases, with some luxury accommodations, like the World of Blue hotel near MetLife Stadium, charging around $2,300 for a room on the night of the final (July 19) — about seven times its normal rate. Even budget options are affected, with a two-star Super 8 motel charging $500 for the final night and Extended Stay America over $900. Parking at the World of Blue hotel for the final is priced at $450, with a discounted spot for room guests costing $383. These high prices, combined with expensive airfare and ticket costs, are contributing to low demand; the World of Blue hotel reported occupancy rates of 8% to 30% for group stage matches and only 4% for the final, with just one parking spot reserved as of June 13. Similarly, New York City hotel bookings for the final's night were at 28% as of June 1, compared to 40% a year prior.

The overall cost for fans attending the 2026 World Cup is projected to be significantly higher than previous tournaments, potentially five times the cost of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The cheapest ticket for the final is around $2,030, a tenfold increase from the 2022 final's cheapest ticket of $206. Domestic flight prices within the U.S. have seen increases of 50% to 100% compared to last year, with flights to Miami specifically up 65% from 2025. Hotel prices in the 11 U.S. host cities have more than doubled on average during the tournament, with some cities like New York, Miami, Dallas, and Los Angeles experiencing average increases of 300% for accommodation.

Industry analysts and travel agents attribute this flagging demand to the combined effect of astronomical ticket prices, soaring airfare, and a scarcity of affordable lodging. While higher-end hotels in some areas maintain elevated prices, some budget options have already begun dropping rates for group stage matches. Jan Freitag, director of U.S. hospitality at CoStar, suggests that demand may pick up as stronger teams advance in the tournament. FIFA's official Accommodation Bureau, operated by Beyond Hospitality, offers fixed rates that are often cheaper than dynamic pricing on the open market, particularly for knockout-stage matches and five-star hotels, with an average price difference of 9.7% lower through FIFA's program.
