Plug Power Inc. has announced the successful completion of a significant phase at the Måde Power-to-X (PtX) facility in Esbjerg, Denmark, which is developed and operated by European Energy. This milestone includes the installation, commissioning, site acceptance testing (SAT), and formal handover of a 5 MW GenEco PEM electrolyzer system. This brings one of Denmark’s earliest operational PtX sites online for active hydrogen production. The facility is expected to produce approximately 550 metric tons of green hydrogen annually, which is equivalent to roughly 1,500 truckloads, and its output is certified as Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) under the ISCC certification scheme.

José Luis Crespo, CEO of Plug Power, highlighted that this project demonstrates the company's ability to deploy complex hydrogen systems with speed and precision. He emphasized a shift towards repeatable execution and standardized delivery, reducing timelines and improving performance with each new system. Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen, EVP and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy, underscored the Måde facility's role in transitioning PtX projects from concept to operation, facilitating the efficient production of certified renewable hydrogen and supporting Europe’s broader transition to low-carbon energy systems.

This project serves as a key commercial reference for Plug Power's electrolyzer technology within a European utility-scale setting. The fully containerized design of the 5 MW unit significantly reduced on-site complexity and accelerated the time to production. While this is a positive development for Plug Power, analysts continue to note the company's significant losses and a reliance on ongoing funding, which could impact its ability to scale further deployments despite revenue growth expectations of around 17% per year. The reliable operation of the Måde facility and future orders will be crucial for the company's financial performance.
