Meta Platforms announced on Monday its new "Meta Enterprise Platform," an initiative designed to provide businesses with its AI tools. To lead this significant new venture, Meta has appointed Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who previously served as the CEO of database software giant MongoDB. This move builds on Meta's earlier launch of Muse, a personal AI assistant.
Following Desai's sudden departure, MongoDB's shares experienced a significant decline, falling by as much as 27% to a nearly two-month low in premarket trading, and over 17% in general trading. The company promptly named Dev Ittycheria, who had a successful 11-year tenure as MongoDB's CEO from 2014 to 2025, as its interim President and CEO. Ittycheria's leadership previously saw MongoDB's annual revenue grow from approximately $35 million to over $2.3 billion.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of this new division, calling it "the next major pillar of our business" and highlighting Desai's experience in enterprise software and AI. Desai, in turn, expressed enthusiasm for Meta's unique position to redefine how organizations operate through AI. MongoDB's board has initiated a search for a permanent CEO while reaffirming its financial guidance for Q3 and the full fiscal year 2027.
