Wellma, a fast-growing Swedish contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in nutraceuticals, is reportedly exploring a sale that could value the company at approximately €1 billion. This news comes as the company has significantly expanded its global footprint and product offerings through a series of strategic acquisitions.

The company, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, has been particularly active in mergers and acquisitions, with Virun NutraBiosciences being its thirteenth acquisition and first in the U.S. Virun, co-founded by Philip Bromley and Nick Huang in 2003, is known for its advanced nutrient delivery technologies, including emulsion and liposomal platforms for ingredients like Omega-3. This acquisition gives Wellma its first sites in the U.S. (Los Angeles) and Ireland (County Kildare) and strengthens its position in rapidly expanding categories.

In 2025 alone, Wellma completed five acquisitions, showcasing its aggressive growth strategy. These included Fipros A/S (Denmark, gels and powders), The Bar Factory (Netherlands, functional protein and energy bars), PlantaCorp (Germany, liposomal technology for liquid formulations), NutraResearch (Spain, liquid and solid nutraceuticals), and Nutrifundiet (Spain, gummy specialist). Other acquired companies in the Wellma Group include Euronovis (Italy, coating, granulation, pellets), MixMaster (Netherlands, powders), Legosan (Sweden, tablets and capsules), Private Label Factory (Germany, digital contract manufacturing), Pouch Alliance (Netherlands, nutritional liquids in flexible packaging), and Calleva (UK, nutritional gels, powders, functional ingredients).

Wellma, founded in 2021, has quickly established itself as a global leader in nutraceutical development and co-manufacturing, serving over 50 markets worldwide. Christian Merup, CEO of Wellma, has highlighted the strength of Virun's technology platform and its support for fast-growing brands, while Philip Bromley, founder and CEO of Virun, expressed enthusiasm for leveraging Wellma's expertise and growth opportunities to expand customer support in Europe and the U.S.

The potential sale at a €1 billion valuation reflects Wellma's successful strategy of rapid expansion and diversification across various nutraceutical formats and technologies, including tablets, powders, capsules, gummies, gels, bars, liposomals, and liquids. The company emphasizes innovation, high-quality production, and sustainability, leveraging technology like AI and robotics to enhance efficiency.
