Former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak appeared at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on September 25, 2026, to seek a stay of execution on his 15-year prison sentence and RM11.38 billion fine related to the misappropriation of RM2.3 billion from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). This legal action follows a conditional pardon granted to him on September 18 by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, allowing him to serve the remainder of his SRC International prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine. The High Court will hear his application for the stay on October 14, with Justice Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin presiding.
The 15-year jail term and RM11.38 billion fine were imposed by High Court Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah on December 26, 2025, for four charges of abusing his position to obtain 1MDB funds. If Najib fails to pay the RM11.38 billion fine, he faces an additional 10 years in prison for each charge. The 15-year sentence was ordered to run consecutively after the completion of his sentence in the SRC International case.
Najib, dressed in a light grey suit, arrived from Kajang Prison under tight security. His wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and daughter, Nooryana Najwa, were also present at the court. Nooryana Najwa, when asked about the RM50 million fine for the conditional pardon, stated she did not know if it had been paid. Media reports indicate no specific deadline has been set for this payment.
