Federal prosecutors have initiated a probe into the individuals named as executors of Jeffrey Epstein's will. This investigation follows the recent release of documents by the U.S. Department of Justice, which included various versions of Epstein's last will and testament, detailing his intentions for managing his affairs after his death.
The documents reveal that Jes Staley, a former top executive at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Barclays Plc, was appointed as an executor. Larry Summers, the former U.S. Treasury Secretary, was named as a successor executor. Staley's role evolved from successor executor in a 2012 will to a full executor in versions dated 2013 and 2014, with Summers also listed in the 2014 will.
This development comes as part of a broader effort by federal investigators to identify and potentially charge individuals who may have facilitated Epstein's alleged sex trafficking scheme. After Epstein's death in 2019, prosecutors redoubled their efforts to investigate his associates and employees for potential criminal liability. While some high-profile individuals, including Staley, have been subjects of investigation, DOJ officials have stated that many allegations were uncorroborated or lacked credibility, and no charges have been filed against these men in connection to Epstein's crimes to date.
