Airtel Money, the mobile money subsidiary of Airtel Africa, announced its intention to proceed with an initial public offering (IPO) and apply for admission to trade on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. This move positions Airtel Money to be one of London's largest listings in recent years, aiming for a valuation between $8 billion and $9 billion, according to reports. The company intends to raise at least $800 million through this IPO.

This proposed IPO will involve a secondary offering of existing shares from current shareholders, meaning no new capital will be raised by Airtel Money itself. Airtel Africa, which currently holds a 77.85% beneficial interest in Airtel Money, expects to remain a long-term strategic shareholder after the listing. This strategy is intended to support Airtel Money's continued development as an independently listed business.

The decision to pursue an IPO in London is seen as a significant boost for the City's financial market, which has seen fewer listings recently. Airtel Money provides telecommunications and mobile money services across 14 African markets, serving approximately 53 million people. In the last financial year, it generated revenues of about $1.4 billion. The company had initially targeted an IPO in the first half of 2026, but the timeline was pushed back due to market volatility. Earlier reports suggested a larger target of $1.5 billion to $2 billion for the IPO, which has since been trimmed to at least $800 million.

Airtel Money's planned debut is considered one of the most substantial since the flotation of fintech Wise in 2021. The company is expected to publish a prospectus with more detailed information about the IPO next month. The listing demonstrates continued interest in African financial technology companies and provides a significant opportunity for London's market.
