US retail diesel prices have hit an unprecedented high, exceeding $6.50 per gallon for the first time. As of Saturday, average nationwide prices reached $6.505, according to the American Automobile Association. This significant increase is attributed to a war-driven rally that is having a ripple effect across the economy.

The acceleration in diesel price increases has been particularly pronounced in September, with prices gaining more than 87 cents this month alone. This marks a consistent daily rise, pushing prices beyond the previous peak observed in 2022. The ongoing global conflicts are worsening the fuels crunch, contributing to the escalating costs.

This surge in diesel prices is not an isolated event; a global diesel shortage is anticipated to persist into 2027. This shortage is largely fueled by ongoing wars, which have disrupted supplies and drained inventories to historic lows. The impact is significant for sectors reliant on diesel, such as agriculture, manufacturing, and heavy transportation, exacerbating economic pressures.
