Kuehne+Nagel International AG has entered into a long-term strategic collaboration with Amazon, building on their existing relationship. This comprehensive agreement aims to support Amazon's future business opportunities and enhance customer services for Amazon and its affiliates. Stefan Paul, CEO of Kuehne+Nagel, emphasized that their global network, digital capabilities, and supply chain expertise are well-suited to meet Amazon's evolving business needs, accelerate growth, and create lasting value, setting a new standard for customer service for Amazon on a global scale.
The collaboration specifically includes Amazon Web Services (AWS), covering the entire infrastructure lifecycle. This encompasses construction, equipment deployment, ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and expansion projects. By leveraging this partnership, Kuehne+Nagel intends to bolster supply chain resilience, scalability, and operational efficiency, thereby supporting the continued global growth of cloud infrastructure.
A significant aspect of the deal involves a call option on existing Kuehne+Nagel shares. This option will be settled either in cash or, at Amazon's discretion, in shares, with vesting tied to commercial milestones and services provided over a period of up to seven years. To facilitate this arrangement, Kuehne+Nagel has engaged a third-party financial institution to conduct hedging transactions in its shares. While the exact financial scale was not disclosed, sources suggest that Kuehne+Nagel currently generates high-triple-digit million dollar annual revenue from Amazon, with potential for this agreement to increase it to several billion dollars. Amazon's potential acquisition of Kuehne+Nagel shares is expected to remain in the single-digit percentage range, possibly not even exceeding the 3% reporting threshold.
