The guest list for the intimate, approximately 50-person wedding included Donald Trump Jr.'s brother-in-law Jared Kushner and Eric Trump, along with a "large contingent" of Russians who puzzled other attendees. President Trump himself did not attend the wedding.
The initial report from ProPublica on September 14, 2026, highlighted the extraordinary nature of a Putin-linked oligarch funding the U.S. President's son's wedding, raising concerns among national security experts regarding potential influence and access to the Trump family. Experts like Frank Montoya Jr., a retired FBI official, noted that such actions could put Donald Trump Jr. in a precarious position, suggesting that "if I'm paying for your wedding, at some point, you're going to owe me something." President Trump defended the initial acceptance of the gift, calling such presents "common" among friends, but confirmed that Donald Trump Jr. had since reimbursed Kremlev.
