Stocks in Asia are expected to open lower, mirroring a downturn on Wall Street. This decline occurred after the Federal Reserve implemented its first interest rate hike since 2023, signaling additional tightening measures to combat inflation. As a result, the dollar experienced its most significant gain since June.

Equity-index futures for Australia, Hong Kong, and South Korea all pointed downwards, indicating anticipated losses in those markets. Conversely, Japanese stock futures showed a modest gain, suggesting a more positive outlook there. US stock contracts remained largely unchanged.

The S&P 500 Index dropped to its lowest point since July, while the Nasdaq 100 Index ended the session with little change. This stability in the Nasdaq was partly due to an index of semiconductor stocks, which advanced for the second consecutive session, providing some support to the broader technology sector.
