Brookfield, a US alternative asset manager, announced on September 17, 2026, its plan to invest up to $600 million in ACME Cleantech Ventures, an Indian company. This investment is specifically earmarked to help ACME develop and construct green ammonia and green methanol projects. The funding will be channeled through Brookfield's Global Transition Fund strategy.

This strategic investment signifies Brookfield's initial foray into the low-carbon fuels sector within the region. ACME confirmed that the capital will bolster an advanced pipeline of projects located in both India and Oman. The objective is to scale up the production of green ammonia and other low-carbon fuels, catering to both domestic consumption and export markets.

ACME has already secured supply agreements with several international and domestic buyers. These include Norway's Yara International, Japan's IHI Corporation, and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical. The timing of this investment aligns with the anticipated increase in demand for green fuels, as industries worldwide are actively seeking alternatives to fossil fuels to reduce emissions and achieve decarbonization targets. Brookfield already possesses a substantial presence in India's renewable energy landscape, managing a portfolio of approximately 50 gigawatts in operating and pipeline wind and solar assets.
