Sullivan & Cromwell announced a major expansion of its private equity practice, hiring four prominent partners from Kirkland & Ellis. This strategic move aims to enhance and broaden the firm's U.S. and global private equity capabilities.
The new hires include Hamed Meshki, Luke Guerra, Guirgis Nasief, and Y. Michael Chung. Hamed Meshki, considered a top private equity lawyer in the U.S., will lead Sullivan & Cromwell's global Private Equity Practice and co-lead the Los Angeles office. Luke Guerra, also a highly recognized private equity advisor, will contribute his expertise in complex transactions across various industries.
Guirgis Nasief and Y. Michael Chung are experienced corporate lawyers specializing in private equity and M&A transactions. Nasief will be based in the Los Angeles office, while Chung will operate from the New York office. This team collectively brings nearly six decades of experience advising private equity clients and managing hundreds of high-stakes transactions for premier private equity and asset management firms.
Co-Chairs Robert Giuffra and Scott Miller stated that this group accelerates the growth of the firm's private equity practice, following recent expansions in London. The move reflects increasing competition for private equity partners among law firms, as highlighted by industry observers.
