Solar Industries India Ltd. has agreed to acquire Omnia Holdings Ltd., a South African company specializing in industrial explosives and fertilizers, for 21.8 billion rand ($1.4 billion). This strategic move is intended to bolster Solar Industries India's footprint within the African mining and agriculture industries.
The offer, made by the Nagpur, India-based company, values Omnia shares at 134.5 rand each. This represents a 14.3% premium over Omnia's closing price on the Friday prior to the announcement. Following the news, Omnia's stock surged by as much as 7.5% on Monday, eventually trading 4.2% higher in early Johannesburg trading, bringing its market capitalization to 19.8 billion rand.
