FanDuel's CEO highlighted prediction markets as a robust complementary offering to the company's core sportsbook business. This expansion allows users access to a wide array of markets, including sports, economic indicators such as the S&P 500, assets like gold, political events, and cultural happenings. This strategy aims to broaden FanDuel's appeal beyond traditional sports betting.
The CEO's comments align with a broader trend in the online betting industry, where companies are increasingly diversifying their offerings. DraftKings' CEO, Jason Robins, has also noted significant growth across all product lines and sees prediction markets as a substantial opportunity for his business, suggesting a competitive landscape in this emerging sector.
While FanDuel is positioning prediction markets as complementary, the company has experienced some challenges. Flutter Entertainment, FanDuel's parent company, saw its shares bottom out at just under $90, down from a peak of $307, with CEO Peter Jackson citing a tough market. Despite this, Jackson is optimistic about a rebound, attributing it to corrected missteps and strong underlying metrics. FanDuel plans to invest heavily in customer acquisition and retention over the next three months to combat mounting competition from other sportsbooks and prediction market exchanges like Kalshi, Polymarket, and Robinhood.
FanDuel intends to integrate its FanDuel Predicts app into a single, unified FanDuel app alongside its sportsbook and casino, a move anticipated to increase user traction, similar to DraftKings' approach. The company has also shifted its sports predictions partnership from CME Group to Crypto.com, seeking deeper menus of sports contracts and greater liquidity. While FanDuel has backed away from owning its own exchange due to potential conflict of interest regulations from the CFTC, it expects to generate approximately $50 million in revenue this year as a market maker.
FanDuel has also announced a partnership with Real App, a social sports app with over 1.5 million monthly active users, becoming its first official and exclusive sportsbook and prediction market partner. This collaboration will embed FanDuel odds and contextual markets directly into Real's live sports experience, starting with the 2026 NFL season. This move is designed to connect FanDuel with a new generation of sports fans and capitalize on the social aspect of sports engagement.
