DigitalBridge CEO Marc Ganzi, a long-time digital infrastructure investor, recently discussed the current state of the data center market amidst America's AI boom. While acknowledging the significant opportunities, Ganzi described the market as being in a "toppy-esque" moment. He also highlighted rising leverage and signs of stress within the private credit sector, suggesting potential challenges in the broader financial landscape supporting these investments.

Ganzi emphasized that despite these concerns, the opportunity within the AI buildout still has considerable room for growth. A key factor he identified for the next phase of this boom is the availability of power, which he considers critical. This suggests that the focus for future infrastructure development will shift beyond just data centers and chips to include robust power solutions.

DigitalBridge is a global digital infrastructure investment manager, deploying and managing capital across various digital ecosystems. Their portfolio includes data centers, cell towers, fiber networks, small cells, and edge infrastructure. The company operates through an Investment Management segment, providing institutional investors access to investments across different segments of the digital infrastructure ecosystem, including value-add funds, core equity, credit, and liquid securities.

In recent news, DigitalBridge, in partnership with L&G and TD Asset Management, agreed to acquire VodafoneZiggo's passive mobile tower infrastructure. This acquisition, pending regulatory approvals, will create a new independent tower platform across Belgium and the Netherlands, combining VodafoneZiggo Towers and Belgium Tower Partners. The combined entity will manage over 6,600 sites and aims to support continued 5G deployment and network expansion in the region. DigitalBridge's strategic focus remains on high-quality digital infrastructure, despite a recent report of a $47.9 million total revenue in Q4, compared to a FactSet estimate of $103.9 million, and adjusted EPS of $0.21, exceeding the FactSet estimate of $0.11.

Previously, Ganzi had also dismissed the concept of space-based data centers as more of a "science project" than a viable infrastructure strategy, reiterating that power remains the primary bottleneck for AI, rather than just chips or data centers. This aligns with his current views on the critical importance of power for the industry's future. The company has also been actively acquiring assets, including selected data center assets from NEC Corporation earlier in the year.
