Georgia Republican Rep. Mike Collins' Senate campaign has been plagued by a series of misfortunes since its inception. The campaign's official 'war room' X account posted a video with a glaring spelling error, 'Georiga, Let’s Ride,' on day one, which was widely mocked.
Further compounding his struggles, Collins is currently facing a House ethics probe. Additionally, revelations surfaced that his son-in-law had made white nationalist posts on social media, adding another layer of controversy to the campaign.
These setbacks have significantly hampered Collins' campaign, while incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff has gained national recognition by criticizing former President Trump and has seen a surge in state polls. The race, initially considered a tossup, is now largely viewed as favoring the Democrats, presenting a significant disappointment for the GOP and potentially bolstering Democrats' long-shot bid to reclaim the Senate this fall. Republicans also appear to have unity problems in Georgia, as Collins and gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson haven't campaigned together, and Trump urged Jackson and his primary rival to reconcile.
