China's services sector experienced its most rapid expansion in over a year during August, according to a private survey. This boost was primarily driven by the summer travel season, which fueled demand amidst an otherwise subdued period for domestic consumption.

The RatingDog China services purchasing managers' index (PMI) increased to 53 in August, up from 52.6 in July. This figure represents the highest reading since May 2024. The PMI also exceeded the median forecast of 52.5 from economists surveyed by Bloomberg. A reading above 50 indicates an expansion in activity.

This robust performance in August suggests a positive momentum for the services sector, contrasting with the relatively weaker trends observed in other areas of domestic consumption.
