Anthropic, a leading AI company and maker of the Claude chatbot, has secured a significant $35 billion cloud-computing deal with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia. This agreement aims to substantially expand Anthropic's AI capacity, particularly to meet the growing demand for its products like the AI coding tool, Claude Code, and Claude AI. The deal involves a Texas data center, specifically in Nueces County, which is being developed by Hut 8, a company that transitioned from crypto-mining to AI data centers. The data center will have a capacity of approximately 350 megawatts.

Nvidia, the world's most valuable business and a dominant provider of AI chips, is playing a crucial role in this arrangement. While Lambda is the cloud provider, the Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia itself would hold the lease on the data center. This structure indicates Nvidia's strategy to not only sell hardware but also underwrite demand by expanding access to computing infrastructure, thereby increasing demand for its technology. Hut 8 had previously signed a 15-year lease deal with an "investment-grade customer" for $19.6 billion, which was later identified by the Financial Times as Nvidia for its 1-gigawatt Beacon Point campus.

This $35 billion deal with Lambda is part of a series of aggressive expansions by Anthropic to bolster its computing power. The IPO-bound company recently announced a $45 billion commitment to rent AI cloud computing power from Nscale's West Virginia data center campus. Additionally, Anthropic has reportedly signed other substantial cloud deals, including $50 billion with neocloud Fluidstack and $45 billion with Elon Musk's SpaceX. These investments highlight Anthropic's emergence as one of the most significant customers for data center power in the rapidly expanding generative AI market. Lambda, the cloud provider, is also reportedly seeking to raise up to $3 billion, potentially reaching a valuation of $12 billion or more, and had previously secured over $1.5 billion in funding in November 2025 and an agreement with Microsoft to deploy Nvidia-powered AI infrastructure.
