The “Ham and Cheese House” at 920 South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach has been listed for sale at $105 million. This landmark property, originally named Casa Eleda, is famous for its unique exterior featuring alternating bands of red brick and coral Key stone, resembling a ham and cheese sandwich. It was designed in the Italian Romanesque style by society architect Maurice Fatio and built in 1928 for investment banker Mortimer Schiff and his wife, Adele Neustadt Schiff.
This significant price tag highlights the soaring value of luxury real estate in Palm Beach. The house spans 22,253 square feet of living space, with eight bedrooms, 154 feet of oceanfront, and sits on a little over an acre. Its features include pecky cypress-beamed ceilings, ornate stonework, five fireplaces, three loggias, an extensive basement, and a tunnel to the beach with a private cabana.
When it was last sold in June 2013, the property fetched $15.975 million, purchased by Penelope and Marion Hugh Antonini. Prior to that, Michigan businessman Charles “Chuck” E. Becker and his wife Michelle had acquired it in 2000 for $13 million. The substantial increase in listing price reflects the intense demand and limited inventory for high-end properties in the area, as noted by real estate professionals. Another Palm Beach estate, Amado, recently sold for $148 million, marking one of the highest residential transactions in the area.
