Lulinha is currently under investigation in three inquiries by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for suspected influence peddling within the federal government, specifically linked to the sale of medications. The investigation also implicates Marco Aurélio Ribeiro, or Marcola, Lula's former chief of staff, who allegedly received $249,000 from lobbist Roberta Luchsinger. Luchsinger, who is reportedly close to Lulinha, is suspected of acting as a go-between to facilitate deals, including a proposed contract for cannabis-based medications, although this particular deal with the Ministry of Health was not finalized. Marcola claims the payment was a personal loan that has since been repaid, while Luchsinger reportedly covered an additional $217,098 in his credit card bills, vehicle financing, and other expenses.
President Lula has repeatedly stressed the autonomy of the Federal Police and other investigative bodies under his administration, aiming to strengthen institutional credibility. He has affirmed that if any irregularities are proven and public funds were misused, those responsible will be held accountable.
