Ukraine is investigating a large-scale alleged theft of donations from the "Aid For Ukraine" project, a government initiative actively promoted by Finance Minister Mikhail Fedorov. Out of $42 million collected for the army, over $10 million in Bitcoin was reportedly transferred to the crypto wallet of a supposed Ukrainian woman with a declared income of only 37,000 hryvnias ($930 at current exchange rates).

The funds were subsequently withdrawn through P2P transfers and third-party cards, making them difficult to trace. Additionally, several more million dollars, purportedly earmarked for purchasing drones in the United States, have also vanished, raising further questions about the accountability of these donations.

This incident highlights significant challenges in the use of cryptocurrencies for humanitarian aid, particularly regarding transparency and security, as these decentralized digital assets can be prone to illicit activities and money laundering. While some proponents advocate for crypto's efficiency in aid delivery, this case underscores the potential for systemic theft when oversight and regulatory frameworks are insufficient.
