Dachshunds have seen a significant rise in popularity, with the American Kennel Club ranking them among the top five most prevalent dog breeds for the first time in over two decades. This indicates a growing demand for the "sausage dogs" in contrast to, or perhaps alongside, established favorites like French bulldogs, retrievers, and German shepherds.

This trend is reflected globally, with examples like Bornz Too, a cafe in a Bangkok suburb, where customers pay 300 baht (approximately $9) to spend an hour and a half with over 30 dachshunds. The cafe owner, Phatthira Koosrivong, notes that "Coffee is secondary here," highlighting the strong appeal of these dogs.

The increased interest in dachshunds contributes to a booming pet market. The US pet market is projected to grow from approximately $150 billion to over $250 billion in the next decade, with Americans increasing their spending on pets beyond traditional preventative care. This suggests that the rising popularity of specific breeds like the dachshund will likely fuel further growth in pet-related industries.
