The Hang Seng Indexes Company announced on August 21, 2026, that two new companies, Hua Hong Grace Semiconductor and Weichai Power, will be included in the Hang Seng Index. This expansion will increase the number of constituents from 93 to 95, with the changes becoming effective on September 7.

Hua Hong Grace Semiconductor, a prominent Chinese contract chipmaker, will bolster the information technology sector's weighting in the HSI from 15.86% to 17.11%. Weichai Power, a truck and engine manufacturer, will cause the energy, materials, industrials, and conglomerates category to see its weight rise from 10.87% to 11.12%.

This move by Hong Kong aims to enhance its exposure to artificial intelligence by increasing tech industry representation in its stock benchmark. The Hang Seng Index has lagged global peers this year partly due to its underrepresentation of AI hardware companies. According to Mizuho Securities Asia Ltd., Hua Hong Grace's inclusion alone is expected to attract approximately $184 million in passive inflows. Analysts also anticipate that the Hang Seng Index is on track to break a three-quarter losing streak.
