Jason Statham's latest film, "Mutiny," is an action-thriller where he plays Cole Reed, a former London cop turned bodyguard. The movie is set aboard a giant cargo ship and has been likened by critics to "Die Hard on a Boat." Statham's character, Cole, is out to avenge the murder of his Bangkok tycoon boss, Tibu Campallo (Ramon Tikaram). The film focuses on Cole's brutal and efficient fighting style, where he dispatches enemies quickly using various methods and tools, leading one critic to call it "Die Easy."

The plot begins in Bangkok, where Tibu Campallo, a shipping magnate, is assassinated shortly after selling his company. Cole, who was close to Tibu, finds himself framed for the murder and goes on the run. He sneaks onto the Artemis, one of Tibu's cargo ships, believing a conspirator is aboard. Here, Cole uncovers a darker conspiracy: a shipping container filled with human cargo, primarily children, from Thailand, revealing a human-trafficking operation. This discovery gives Cole's revenge plot a broader purpose, as he endeavors to save these victims.

Cole is assisted by Angie (Annabelle Wallis), the ship's third mate, who is an innocent caught in the events. The antagonist is Captain Marko (Roland Møller), a European bruiser who leads the corrupt crew connected to Tibu's murder and the human trafficking. Critics note that while the film's action is satisfactory and Statham's performance is consistent with his brand, the human-trafficking subplot is handled cynically and doesn't always integrate smoothly, serving primarily as a plot device to justify Cole's actions. The film, directed by Jean-Francois Richet, is seen as a serviceable entry in Statham's filmography, offering "low-octane escapism" with a more grounded, less explosive climax compared to many modern action movies.

Despite the human-trafficking element being criticized as manipulative, the film generally picks up once Statham is on the boat, delivering the expected action for a Jason Statham vehicle. The film lacks the ensemble cast or humor of some of Statham's other works but provides plenty of one-on-one combat. The fights involve improvised weapons like open padlocks, fire axes, hooks, and a speargun, and Statham's character even climbs an anchor chain. The movie was released in the UK and US on August 21, with expectations for muted reviews, suggesting it might be better suited for VOD rather than a theatrical release, even though Statham's previous film, "The Beekeeper," collected $163 million worldwide.
