Four Democratic senators, including Chris Van Hollen, Jack Reed, Angela Alsobrooks, and Elizabeth Warren, have sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh urging him to release details of all conversations with President Donald Trump since Warsh assumed the role in May. This request follows reports that Trump and Warsh have spoken multiple times, discussing Warsh's economic outlook and views, though Trump reportedly did not directly ask for specific monetary policy actions during these calls.

The senators emphasized the importance of transparent communication between the Fed and the White House to maintain confidence in monetary policy and demonstrate the central bank's independence. They noted that Warsh's public schedule for his first month in office listed meetings with other White House officials and economists but conspicuously omitted any contact with President Trump, raising further questions.

This issue arises amidst ongoing efforts by President Trump to influence the Fed, including his continued calls for interest rate cuts and the White House's attempts to remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook. The senators argue that Warsh's failure to disclose these reported communications, which they described as "unprecedented in the modern era," undermines the transparency and accountability essential for effective monetary policy and could intensify political debate over the Fed's independence.
