Capula Investment Management has recently bolstered its energy trading capabilities by hiring two experienced energy traders. Wouter Verdam has joined Capula from Freepoint Commodities, while Jakob Stawiarz has moved from Element Alpha. These appointments are part of Capula's strategy to expand its presence in the energy and commodities markets, driven by heightened volatility in the sector.

Both Verdam and Stawiarz started their new roles at Capula this week. They will focus on trading European and US energy futures. Verdam, who spent over seven years at Freepoint and previously worked at Citigroup, is based in Capula's Zug office in Switzerland. Stawiarz, formerly with Ocean Leonid Investments, has joined the firm's Geneva operation.

London-based Capula Investment Management, co-founded by Yan Huo, who previously established JPMorgan Chase’s fixed-income proprietary trading operation, manages approximately $35 billion. This move reflects a broader trend of hedge funds expanding into energy and commodities trading, aligning with current market developments and investor demand.
