Strategic Value Partners (SVP) is reportedly exploring the sale of APCOA Parking, a significant European parking and urban-mobility operator. This potential move could lead to another major private-equity transaction in the European infrastructure and mobility market.

APCOA manages over 1.8 million parking spaces across approximately 13,000 locations in more than 400 cities, employing around 5,000 people and generating roughly $900 million in annual revenue. The company's operations span parking management, digital payment solutions, and advanced parking technology. It has become an attractive asset due to its extensive operational footprint, consistent revenue streams, and exposure to long-term trends such as digital parking, electric-vehicle (EV) charging, and smart-city development.

SVP's potential sale of APCOA is notable because the firm only finalized its acquisition in February 2024. SVP had been a minority shareholder in APCOA since 2014 before agreeing in October 2023 to acquire the remaining shares from majority shareholder Centerbridge and other minority investors. At the time of the acquisition, SVP identified significant opportunities to enhance APCOA's value through automation, improved utilization of underutilized parking spaces, and expansion into EV charging infrastructure, alongside operational improvements, technology investments, and organic growth.

The potential transaction underscores a broader trend where parking facilities are increasingly viewed as infrastructure-style businesses, generating recurring revenue from long-term contracts with various institutions like municipalities, airports, and hospitals. These facilities are also becoming critical for the transition to electric vehicles, offering space for EV charging stations, delivery services, and mobility hubs. This transformation, coupled with APCOA's digitalization efforts through its APCOA FLOW platform, makes the company particularly appealing to infrastructure funds and private-equity firms seeking businesses with predictable cash flows and opportunities for technological expansion.

While SVP's consideration of a sale does not guarantee a transaction, if it proceeds, it could attract significant interest from financial investors looking for European infrastructure and mobility assets. The outcome would provide insight into how investors value the evolving parking sector, particularly its intersection with transportation, technology, and real estate, as it transitions into a broader urban-mobility business.
