Geoffrey Mansfield, a long-serving Shell Plc veteran, has stepped down from his role as global desk lead for low-carbon fuels trading. Mansfield's departure comes after 26 years with the oil major. He initially joined Shell's London trading floor in 2006 and was instrumental in establishing and managing refined products desks for distillates, gasoline, and jet fuel, according to his LinkedIn profile. Shell declined to comment on the resignation.

Mansfield took charge of the low-carbon fuels desk approximately five years ago, a period characterized by significant growth in the industry. This growth was largely propelled by ambitious government mandates promoting alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. Traders in this sector are involved in both buying and selling these low-carbon fuels, as well as the associated regulatory credits.

His resignation occurs amidst a broader industry trend where Shell has scaled back some of its low-carbon business initiatives. The wider oil industry has shown a tendency to pivot away from energy transition assets, refocusing instead on fossil fuels. Meanwhile, Shell's oil trading operations experienced a boost in earnings during the first half of the year, driven by volatility attributed to the Iran war.
