Taylor Farms, a major food producer, has voluntarily recalled more than a dozen products containing jalapeños, including dips, salsas, and guacamole. This action follows a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 345 people across 27 states. The affected products were distributed in 26 states and have "Best If Used By" dates up to and including August 16, 2026.
The jalapeños at the center of the outbreak were supplied to Taylor Farms by Coast Citrus Distributors, which sourced them from Sinaloa, Mexico. The FDA had previously traced Coast Citrus Distributors to the salmonella outbreak. Taylor Farms stated it is no longer sourcing from this farmer and is using alternative suppliers, adding that it is not aware of any reported illnesses directly linked to its products.
Grocery chains like Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Kroger carried the recalled items. Walmart confirmed it was swiftly removing impacted products and implementing sales blocks. This recall is part of a larger effort, as restaurant chains Chipotle and QDOBA also pulled jalapeños last week, and grocery stores are removing meat products containing them.
Over 20 specific items, including various salsas, dips, guacamoles, and even some sandwiches and burritos, are part of the recall. The Food Poison Journal noted that Taylor Fresh Foods published UPCs, date ranges, retailer names, state lists, and photographs of the recalled items, a level of detail often missing from other outbreak-related recall notices.
