Taylor Farms announced a voluntary recall of more than a dozen prepared food items, such as salsas and guacamoles, after concerns arose regarding potential Salmonella contamination. The recall stems from jalapeño peppers supplied by a farmer in Sinaloa, Mexico, which were distributed through Coast Citrus Distributors. Although Taylor Farms is not aware of any reported illnesses directly linked to its recalled products, the action is proactive given a broader U.S. health investigation into a Salmonella outbreak associated with Mexican jalapeños.

This wider outbreak has already sickened 345 people across 27 states and resulted in 36 hospitalizations. Major restaurant chains like Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba were also affected by the contaminated peppers but have since stopped using the implicated supply. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are continuing to investigate the outbreak, including whether the contaminated peppers were sold in grocery stores.

Albertsons Companies, including stores like Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Randalls, and Tom Thumb, has also initiated its own recall of four specific Taylor Farms items containing the affected jalapeños. Consumers are advised to dispose of or return these products for a full refund. Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, and can be particularly severe for young children, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
