Allianz SE, the German insurer and owner of bond manager Pacific Investment Management Co. (Pimco), announced a substantial increase in profit for the first quarter. Group operating profit rose by 6.8% to €3.99 billion ($4.3 billion), exceeding analysts' expectations. This positive performance was largely attributed to better-than-expected results within its property-casualty insurance segment.

A significant contributor to Allianz's improved financial standing was Pimco, which attracted €32.4 billion from outside clients during the quarter. This marked Pimco's best quarter for inflows in approximately six years, signaling a renewed investor appetite for fixed-income securities after a challenging two-year period.

Allianz Chief Executive Officer Oliver Baete is strategically focusing on the asset management business, which also includes Allianz Global Investors, to diversify the company's revenue streams beyond its core insurance operations. This strategy aims to capitalize on the strengths of its asset management units, particularly as the fixed-income market regains traction.
