e.l.f. Beauty (NYSE: ELF) is making its most significant category expansion since 2022 by launching a new haircare line. The initial rollout consists of six products, including shampoo, conditioner, a treatment oil, anti-frizz spray, styling cream, and a styling wand, all priced at $10 or below. This move is a strategic step into the approximately $19.3 billion U.S. haircare market, with the mass segment alone accounting for about $11.4 billion. Jefferies analysts estimate that capturing just 1% of the U.S. mass hair market could generate roughly $114 million in incremental revenue for e.l.f.

The company tested the waters earlier this year with two limited-edition hair styling products that sold out within 48 hours. Notably, 65% of these sales came from new e.l.f. customers, indicating a strong potential for brand expansion beyond its existing consumer base. Kory Marchisotto, President of e.l.f. Brands, highlighted that 77% of e.l.f.'s current consumers had expressed interest in haircare, and it was the most requested segment during a recent TikTok Live event, alongside fragrance.

The new haircare line debuted on TikTok Shop on June 16, 2026, followed by availability on e.l.f. and Target's digital platforms on June 24, with in-store distribution at Target commencing on July 5. Target will serve as the exclusive retail partner for e.l.f. Hair. Analysts from Raymond James reiterated a "Strong Buy" rating on e.l.f. Beauty, noting that the company is applying its successful "dupes" model to haircare, offering prestige-quality products at accessible price points ranging from $6 to $9. This strategy has historically contributed to e.l.f.'s impressive 70.72% gross profit margin and 24.59% revenue growth over the last twelve months.

The global haircare market is projected to grow by 24% to reach $173 billion by 2030, outpacing the growth of established beauty verticals like makeup and fragrance. This growth is driven by factors such as GLP-1-related hair thinning and increasing interest in scalp health. e.l.f.'s move into haircare is seen as a timely response to consumer demand for "e.l.f.fordable luxury" and aligns with its mission to make high-quality beauty accessible, now extending to hair.

e.l.f. Beauty, which also acquired Hailey Bieber's Rhode for $1 billion last year and owns Well People and Naturium, finished fiscal 2026 (ended March 31) with revenues up 25% to $1.6 billion. The company's ability to quickly bring products to market, offer value, and translate prestige trends into affordable options positions it well to capitalize on consumer trends, especially during periods of economic uncertainty where demand for affordable indulgences tends to increase.
