This program includes popular drugs such as Wegovy, Zepbound KwikPen, and Foundayo, with free home delivery. Amazon Pharmacy streamlines the process by handling eligibility verification, prior authorization, and enrollment, eliminating paperwork for patients.
The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, launched by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 1, 2026, is a short-term initiative set to run until December 31, 2027. It allows eligible beneficiaries with Medicare drug coverage and specific BMI criteria (35 or higher, or 27 or higher with co-morbidities) to access these medications for weight management. The $50 copay does not contribute to deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums, as the program operates outside of the standard Medicare Part D benefit.
Amazon Pharmacy currently serves over 3,100 U.S. cities, with plans to expand to 4,500 by year-end. Same-day delivery is available in many locations, and a Prime membership is not required for this service. This move is part of Amazon's broader strategy to expand its healthcare footprint, building on previous initiatives like the GLP-1 management program launched through Amazon One Medical, which offered prices as low as $25 a month for insured patients.
This federal program represents the first opportunity for many older adults to have GLP-1s covered by insurance specifically for weight loss. CMS will manage prior authorization, claims adjudication, and payments to pharmacies through a single central processor for the duration of the Bridge Program.
