Colombian police intercepted a bus carrying 420 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and seven improvised launching ramps on the Pan-American Highway near Santander de Quilichao, Cauca. The explosives, distributed in seven cylinders, were intended to attack military and police installations in Cali during the upcoming presidential inauguration of Abelardo De La Espriella. The operation, dubbed "Prometeo," was conducted by multiple specialized police units including Dipol, Dijín, Diran, Ditra, and the Multicrime Search Bloc in the Southwest.
Authorities attributed the planned attack to the 'Jaime Martínez' Front, a faction of the FARC dissidents under the command of 'Iván Mordisco,' and identified 'Max Max,' their primary explosives expert, as responsible for preparing the vehicle. The material was safely detonated in a controlled manner in a rural area of Santander de Quilichao. Military intelligence suggests the attack was personally ordered by 'Iván Mordisco' to create a high-impact event during the inauguration.
The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed the threat of explosives in Cali prior to the inauguration, though he did not corroborate previous claims of "dozens of tons." The government has deployed over 11,000 security personnel to secure the event, which was moved from Bogotá to Cali. Authorities are also monitoring for potential threats from drones and acts of vandalism. A reward of up to $500 million pesos has been offered for information preventing terrorist acts related to the presidential inauguration.
