Kino Lorber’s MHz Choice, a prominent streaming service for international dramas, has secured exclusive U.S. streaming rights for all four seasons of the German WWII drama *Das Boot*. This acquisition was part of a broader deal with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, also including Italian series *Dostoyevsky* and *Piedone – A Cop in Naples*, and German series *Drift – Partners in Crime*. All these series were originally Sky productions, a Comcast-owned entity like NBCUniversal.
The first season of *Das Boot* premiered on MHz Choice on July 7, 2026, making it available to U.S. audiences for the first time on this platform, although Season 1 previously streamed on Hulu in 2018. The highly anticipated U.S. premiere of Season 2 is set for August 4, 2026, with two episodes, followed by weekly releases for its eight episodes. Premiere dates for Seasons 3 and 4, which have never been seen in the U.S., will be announced later. Martha Benyam, COO of Kino Lorber Media Group, highlighted *Das Boot* as a "powerful series that’s both timely and timeless" and expressed enthusiasm for bringing the full series to MHz Choice viewers.
Season 2 of *Das Boot* continues its exploration of espionage and survival during WWII. The storyline expands geographically, with decorated U-boat commander Johannes von Reinhartz sent on a covert mission to the U.S. East Coast, while another U-boat pursues him due to suspicions about his loyalty. Back in La Rochelle, Simone (Vicky Krieps) and Margot (Fleur Geffrier) become further entangled in the French Resistance. Additionally, former U-612 commander Hoffmann (Rick Okon) resurfaces in New York, navigating the city's politics and a high-brow underworld with ties to the Third Reich. The series also stars Franz Dinda, Tom Wlaschiha, Rainer Bock, Vincent Kartheiser, and Lizzy Caplan. It was created by Tony Saint and Johannes Betz and has received critical acclaim, including eleven German Television Award nominations and an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score for its first season.
