Marmion, a historic Federal-style home near Fredericksburg, underwent a $10 million restoration led by owner Christine G. Moore, who bought the neglected property in 2011 for an undisclosed amount.
The 1798 house, formerly owned by George Washington's nephew Lawrence Lewis, had significantly deteriorated by the time of purchase. Moore embarked on a comprehensive renovation, meticulously restoring the home to its original grandeur, even incorporating a dovecote inspired by Thomas Jefferson's design at Monticello.
The extensive project focused on preserving historical accuracy while integrating modern amenities. The restoration encompassed structural repairs, interior refurbishments, and landscaping, transforming the property into a blend of historical charm and contemporary living standards. Moore's dedication brought Marmion back to life, honoring its significant place in American history.
