Aston Martin announced on Wednesday it has finalized a new £550 million ($735.57 million) debt financing package led by HPS Investment Partners, a firm owned by BlackRock. This financing includes a £450 million senior secured term loan (SSTL) and a £100 million delayed draw term loan, both maturing in July 2031 and priced at 6.75% over the SONIA base rate. The deal also incorporates an additional £100 million in permitted debt incurrence capacity, positioned as junior to the current financing.
The proceeds from this new debt are primarily being used to repay existing financial obligations. Specifically, the entire £170 million super senior revolving credit facility and the £20 million drawn from the Yew Tree Consortium facility have been repaid. This strategic move aims to significantly enhance Aston Martin's liquidity, bringing its pro forma liquidity to approximately £340 million as of June 30, 2026. According to Doug Lafferty, Aston Martin's CFO, this financing is crucial for resilience and flexibility in executing current and future product plans.
The financing was secured despite prior concerns about a potential clash among BlackRock's different divisions, as some of its bond funds were part of a creditor steering committee for Aston Martin's existing debt. While HPS Investment Partners, a BlackRock-owned entity, acted as lead lender, the situation had been described as a potential 'BlackRock vs. BlackRock' scenario before the deal was finalized. This new debt is secured against certain assets within a newly formed subsidiary and other group assets. The company continues to project year-on-year financial performance improvements, focusing on margin expansion and cash flow generation through its transformation program and enhanced product mix.
This capital injection is vital for Aston Martin, which has faced significant financial challenges, including a 44% decline in its share value this year, weak demand from China, and the impact of U.S. tariffs. The company views this as a necessary step to maintain its position in the luxury automobile market and proactively address its financial landscape.
