Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, could face trial on US drug-trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracy charges in June 2027. This proposed schedule was outlined in a letter filed by Manhattan federal prosecutors and agreed upon by both sides, to be presented to US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein.
The proposed schedule details a timeline for pretrial motions, including the defense filing motions to dismiss the case or limit evidence in early September. The government will also file a motion regarding the use of classified evidence. This process involves two rounds of pretrial motions from Maduro's legal team.
Prosecutors have already provided the bulk of non-classified evidence to Maduro's defense. Most classified materials are expected to be turned over by November. Both the prosecution and defense have reserved the right to request delays, and prosecutors specifically noted that issues with classified evidence might shift the schedule. The judge is expected to officially set the schedule during a court conference as early as Wednesday. Maduro, 63, and Flores, 69, have been held at a Brooklyn jail following their capture by US military forces in January.
