Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by US Marshals in Miami on Saturday, July 19th, as UK officials announced a flurry of 38 new charges against the brothers. These charges include rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offenses related to indecent images of a child. The arrests were made pursuant to an extradition request from the UK, where they face a combined total of 59 charges, including the new allegations and pre-existing ones. The brothers were taken into custody outside the James L Knight Center just before a bareknuckle boxing event Andrew Tate was scheduled to host.
The new offenses specified by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) allegedly occurred between July 2017 and August 2020 and involve four victims. Andrew Tate, 39, faces additional charges such as three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and 19 charges related to indecent images of children and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, is facing new charges that include one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The Tates, who hold dual US and UK citizenship, have consistently denied all wrongdoing. British officials are now seeking their extradition to face these new charges, as well as an existing set of 21 counts related to three other alleged victims. The brothers had previously been charged in Romania, where they moved in 2016, and Romanian courts had ordered their extradition to the UK only after their domestic criminal matters were settled there. The charges had been authorized in January 2024, leading to the issuance of European Arrest Warrants, but were only publicly confirmed by the CPS this week. They will be processed at the federal courthouse in Miami on Monday, the Department of Justice announced.
