Trump also stated he was releasing previously classified documents related to the 2018 and 2020 elections.
Despite Trump's assertions, intelligence assessments completed in early 2021 found no evidence of foreign tampering with vote totals or election equipment in 2020. Furthermore, Trump himself signed a federal document last year acknowledging no foreign power altered the outcome or vote tabulation in any U.S. election. His repeated claims about election fraud have led to substantial financial settlements, including a $787.5 million payment by Fox News to settle a libel lawsuit with a voting machine company.
Trump is actively pressuring congressional Republicans to pass components of the SAVE America Act. The bill includes provisions requiring photo identification to vote in federal elections, documentary proof of citizenship to register, and a program to remove noncitizens from voter rolls. While the House has passed an expanded version of the bill, it faces significant hurdles in the Senate, where it lacks the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. Trump has called for the elimination of the filibuster to pass the legislation. House Republicans plan to include elements of the bill in a $95 billion party-line spending bill, with the House Administration Committee allocated $10 billion to implement these provisions.
